Race Training 1: The Flat 50 Training Route

This will be one of our final training sessions for the Flat 50. One of our all-time favourite marathon trail routes. The route is (intermediate experience level) 25 mile hilly in places training run that starts and ends in Minehead. Following a short road section running from Minehead through Dunster, you then take to the trail up Grabist hill and follow the ridge up to Dunkery Beacon. The trail then ascends to Horner Water which you follow to the packhorse bridge loop back and make your way to Hawkcombe then Porlock, quick refuel and away heading for Boscombe. We then follow the rugged hilly coastal route back to Minehead.

The route is quite challenging but we have found it perfect when preparing for a 50+ Ultra Event.  If we are preparing you for your first 50-mile ultra this will be one of the final training routes, with a target time of 8hrs. Equally, if you are more experienced the target time would be 6hrs.
